Information about the 2020/2021 season in Bochum

The season 2019/2020 in Bochum has come to an end. As everywhere else, it was completely different than planned. After having to cancel a lot of concerts due to the corona crisis, a few concerts with an adapted programme i.e. with violinist Antje Weithaas could finally take place nonetheless. And despite all the uncertainties, some things stay the same: the joy of making music and creating fascinating programmes.

In a video message, Steven Sloane and Thomas Kipp gave a first outlook at what the start of the 2020/2021 season in September could look like.

At the moment, they expect that approx. 500 visitors will be allowed in September 2020.” There will be a very interesting programme”, promises Steven Sloane. Everything will be a bit smaller than usual. Less audience and less musicians on stage. This means, of course, that the programme will have to be different, i.e. Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 will be played in an arrangement for chamber orchestra.

If the concert-version of Richard Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” can take place is not sure yet.

The ticket sale for the new season starts on Monday, August 17. Due to the current situation and the reduced seat options in the Musikforum, there will be no subscriptions for the upcoming season. The programme will always be published for two months, the concert dates for September and October will be published at the end of July.
