Malmö Opera has announced Steven Sloane as its Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Advisor, effective from the beginning of the 2018/19 season. He will work alongside Michael Bojesen, the Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the company since 2017.
Steven Sloane opens the Malmö Opera concert season on 14th September 2018 with works by Gershwin and Bernstein. In the winter he will return to lead a new production of Der fliegende Holländer which will be premiered in February 2019 as well as another orchestral concert.
The American-Israeli conductor Steven Sloane has already left his mark on festivals and opera houses such as the Spoleto Festival in Charleston (Music Director, 1996-2000) or Opera North in Leeds (Artistic Director, 1999-2003). He also served as music director of the American Composers Orchestra and principal conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (2007-2013). His artistic vision and tireless efforts in the realm of cultural politics are evident in his role as the long-term General Music Director of the Bochum Symphony, which he transformed into one of Germany’s leading symphony orchestras.
