On 28 April 2015, Steven Sloane, General Music Director of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, announced the highlights of the Orchestra’s 2016/17 season and the opening of the Anneliese Brost Musikform Ruhr. Following 15 years of planning and construction, the inauguration of the Musikforum will take place from 27 to 30 October 2016.
Steven Sloane says about the first season in the new location:
“With the opening season’s program we want to initiate a process accompanying the Musikforum’s development to a vibrantly, urban organism, because we wish our new home to be an inviting place for adventure, education and pleasure, a place offering impulses into the urban and regional cultural life.”
The flexible program structure enables numerous exciting projects with city and regional partners expanding and sharpening the Musikforum’s profile – the Bochumer Symphoniker will cooperate in the upcoming season among others with the Klavier Festival Ruhr, the Chorwerk Ruhr, or with the region’s orchestras for a Brahms project. A main focus in the season’s program is on the new concert series “BoSy Fokus”. The musicians and their audience will face single topics, eras or artists at diverse events scoping from small concerts, exhibitions, lectures and music communication projects to fashion shows and parties.
A special guest in this series in March 2017 will be Bochum’s probably most famous musical son: Herbert Grönemeyer.
Furthermore, concerts with Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, Boris Giltburg or Frank Peter Zimmermann are offered in the season’s programm.
